Plug-ins

What are plug-ins?

Plug-ins are small pieces of software written for CAD applications, designed to automate design tasks. For example, if you have a primary design with options or dimensions that are modified “to order”, then why re-draw it each time? Let the software do it for you.

Is my design a good candidate?

If your design is regularly modified within a set range of parameters, then it’s probably a great candidate.

Why should I use plug-ins?

Plug-ins can dramatically reduce turn around from order to fabrication and eliminate the chance of errors appearing in your design. Instead of requiring a skilled designer, new designs become simple data entry. For instance, input width and height for a custom enclosure, and the model updates instantly.”

Why do you make plug-ins?

By leveraging the scripting language built into most CAD applications, the time required to program designs is much lower than a purpose built application, keeping development costs low and your software environment familiar.

What other advantages are there?

  • Rapid development.

  • Low development cost.

  • Familiar software.

  • Low chance of user error.

  • Low operator skill required - just enter parameters.

What does the process look like?

Things generally start with a diagram (A CAD file or a napkin drawing, it’s up to you). Next we discuss the timeframe and budget, and if that’s to your liking then we start coding! Most projects run less than a month, but this will obviously depend on the complexity of your designs. When development is complete, we will remote into your computer and set up the software along with a short tutorial on how to use it. Simple!
